It was really fun to paint this image with the sunlight so bright you can barely tell where the light ends and the dog begins. The instant behind it has a lot of meaning for me though, because the dog here, my dog Ida, is getting old. I see more signs of it every day now. The way the light seemed to be reaching for her even though her eyes still express so much presence in this world struck me deeply. It reminded me again how short life can be, especially a dog's life, and how important it is to value little moments.
