Astrid Buchhammer is a contemporary painter based in Berlin. After spending several years living in Canada and Oregon, she returned to Germany in 2017 and has since deepened her commitment to painting. Her experiences abroad, together with her life back in Berlin, inform a body of work that explores atmosphere, memory, and the quiet drama of everyday moments. Buchhammer works mainly with oils and acrylics on canvas, creating layered, intimate images that invite viewers to linger and connect with their own memories and emotions.
Artist statement
In my paintings, I try to hold on to a single moment in time - feeling of a place, or a small everyday scene just before it changes. I am interested in how memory and emotions shape what we see and how a painting can become a quiet space to pause and reflect.
