This was painted from life on the evening of September 5, 2022 in honor of Nate Niekamp. During Nate's funeral mass, I kept hearing, "paint the sunset tonight" and it wouldn't leave my mind. It had been a rainy morning and overcast in the afternoon, so I was really hoping something would open up in the skies for me. I returned home just in time to set up and catch the light. I painted for a little over an hour and it felt as if it painted itself and time stopped. I was overcome with emotion and felt a sense of calm as I felt the Holy Spirit guiding my brush. It was truly a moment I will never forget as an artist!
