Branches laden with fruit from my neighbors Miguel and Fernando’s lemon tree pinned up on the wall behind the easel, l laid out rich and grainy colors from Maimeri’s Terre Grezze D’Italia (Italian Natural Earth Colours) saved for the days when my mind and hand want to use a palette knife.  As I sketched out the composition, a thought, a feeling that maybe I was not in the studio but in a tranquil patio in Italy, the fruits fragrant, leaves providing shelter from the imagined heat.  The lemons and leaves take form and my mind continues its wandering.  The wall behind the easel crumbles, a road appears leading into the Tuscan countryside.  I dip my head to come out from under the tree.  I will walk the path to see where it takes me.
