It's February right now, the heart of winter, which is probably why my hand keeps reaching for blues. In this painting, I used some burnt umber too and love the way it brings warmth into what would otherwise be a very cold portrait. The architect Mies Van des Rohe once said "Less is more" and it has long been my mantra. Here, the tight framing only allows the viewer to see details but there are enough for their imagination to do the rest to build the bigger picture, and this experience, I find, enhances the enjoyment of the "extract". Do you agree? Send me a message to let me know. I'd love some feedback :) It's February right now, the heart of winter, which is probably why my hand keeps reaching for blues.
