This is the Snake River in Eastern Oregon. This river is the border between Oregon (on the right) and Idaho (left). Between 1994 and 1996 I flew with a group of artists (Artists in the Sky) in a light plane, crisscrossing Oregon for several months, sketching and photographing the aerial landscapes. One of our crew was an excellent pilot and flew us up the Snake River, banking the airplane to safely pass through the narrows in the gorge. The Snake River gorge (called Hells Canyon) is 2,000 feet deeper than the Grand Canyon! This painting captures the sunset sky light and color on the Snake River, near sunset.
