I painted this a few days ago and it just wasn't working, so I put it aside. Today I decided to spray it with fixative and rework it. It "fixes" the original and you can add layers on top. It can be a great tool during the process, but NEVER for a final fix. It will change the color (darker) and usually leaves a big blob right in the middle of the painting!
