Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix is an amazing place to spend the day and look at cactus intently! Which I did in December. The Mexican Fire Barrel Cactus caught my eye almost immediately with their vibrant fire like pin cushion thorns. These were under the trees in the shade but the light was just right to catch that fire. I plan on painting this again from a different angle and studying some more details of this interesting species from Mexico. This oil study is 9x12.
