I painted this 8x6 study back when I lived on Maui, working directly from life. The light that morning was clear and warm, giving the lemons a natural luminosity that made the whole scene feel alive. I focused on strong, economical brushwork and letting the color relationships carry the painting rather than over-refining anything. I love the way plein air paintings come out so fresh and immediate, they always always take me back to the moment they were made — the quiet, the shifting light, and the challenge of capturing something honest before it changes. This little study still feels like a snapshot of that place and that morning, held in paint.
