These vases were actually a lucky find. I was just on my way to pick something up from the pharmacy when I noticed in passing that my favorite flower shop was closed for renovations. There was a sign on the door with an announcement, and in front of the shop was a large cart with lots of glass vases that were being taken out of inventory. It may sound silly, but you can't imagine how excited I was about these vases! I had been wanting to paint a series of still lifes with glass pieces like these for a long time, but I didn't have anything suitable at home. And here, right in front of me, were the perfect subjects for study--at bargain prices! I could hardly believe my luck! I rushed to the pharmacy and back, for some reason afraid that they might all be gone, even though I knew that was ridiculous - There were at least a hundred vases there in all shapes and sizes! It wasn't easy to choose just a few of them. But I knew I didn't have unlimited space for storage, nor the time to paint them all. So, I chose six, paid for them, and packed them carefully into my shopping bag. I started painting the very next day. The series isn't finished yet because I was interrupted for a commissioned piece, but I'm looking forward to returning to my beautiful new vases soon. These vases were actually a lucky find.
