Anyone who is familiar with my work knows that a common subject of my paintings are large machines and vehicles like this Unimog. What interests me about these man-made giants is their relationship to and frequent presence in nature. For me they are somehow symbolic of our human influence in the natural world. Standing alone like this in a field or a forest they seem so desolate. As a painter the various shapes and angles of such a subject offer a fascinating study of light and shadow, and also of large and small details that I find hard to resist.
