One of my favorite things about toad in the garden is how easily they seem to merge into their surroundings. With my vision--like living inside an impressionist painting--their edges blur into soil and leaf litter until they are almost invisible. And then, suddenly, there they are... with that steady, endearing countenance I can't help but love.
