Sheffield's Graves Park - a local birding spot - is one of many places in the UK with a growing population of naturalised ring-necked parakeets. It was rumoured that they were introduced to the UK when Jimi Hendrix released a pair of the birds on London's Carnaby Street in the 60s, but researchers found that their spread is actually due to pet birds being intentionally released across the country during "parrot fever" scares in the 1930s and 50s, so Hendrix is off the hook! These exotic-looking birds make quite a racket, so they are not hard to spot. They tend to stay pretty high in the trees most of the time, but this one posed on a low branch long enough for me to take a photo.
